Recent trading activity
Tuscan trade picked up in the beginning of the week, with Sassicaia 2014 leading the market by both value and volume, followed by its 2016 and 2019 vintages. The 2014 is currently trading at record high levels, and its price has doubled since release. Other in-demand wines from the region included Mazzei Siepi 2019 and Masseto 2014.
Outside Italy, trade continued to centre around 2014 Burgundy and 2012 Champagne. The most traded wines by value from these regions were Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru Cuvee Vieilles Vignes 2017 and Dom Pérignon 2008.
Best value vintages of Mouton Rothschild
Every year since 1945, Château Mouton Rothschild has commissioned a famous artist to design its First Growth label.
In the past, the announcement has stimulated secondary market activity, raising prices for the vintage in question. The 2020 vintage, which will have its artwork announced tomorrow (1st December), has already been the best performing Mouton Rothschild vintage in the past year, up 11.6%.
The 2020 boasts 96-98 points from Neal Martin (Vinous), who called it ‘a marvelous Mouton’. It has a Market Price of £5,800 per case.
The wine still offers relative value as the chart above shows but if its price rises upon the announcement, it will move further away from the Fair Value line.
Buyers might find the similarly scored 2014 vintage more attractive, which costs over £1k less per case. Its label was designed by one of Britain’s leading contemporary artists, David Hockney.
The 2012 and 2016 vintages, which have risen 11.2% in the past year, also present interesting buying opportunities.
There are currently 4,800 LIVE Bordeaux opportunities, with 515 of these for different Mouton Rothschild vintages.
