What is Cask Whisky Investment
When whisky is distilled, it goes into oak casks to mature, sometimes for decades. During that time, the spirit evolves, deepens in flavour, and critically increases in value. As an investor, you purchase a cask directly from a distillery or broker, own it while it matures, and sell it when the time is right.
Unlike buying bottles or whisky funds, owning a cask means you hold a real, physical asset with a certificate of ownership. There are no management fees eating into returns, and no fund manager between you and your investment.

En Primeur Wine
Every year, many regions from around the world release their wines early, usually two years prior to bottling, a practice known as en primeur. This offers you the chance to invest in wine while it’s still in the barrel. Famously, these regions include: Bordeaux; Burgundy; Napa and Piedmont.
What En Primeur means for you?
By having the opportunity to invest in wine early before the producer has bottled offers fantastic investment opportunities. Originally a concept used by producers to raise much needed cash for the chateau, its modern use is a chance for wineries to take advantage of the free publicity and sell into an engaging audience that looks for wines to invest in, and drink, before they are released to market.
Why should you?
In short, price. To take advantage of the en primeur season, chateaus release their wines attractively priced. By making their early release the cheapest available on the market, an investment environment manifests where the overall chance of the wine increasing in value once bottled is high,
There are certainly benefits but also some risks, your portfolio manager at London Barrelhouse will take you through them.
