Sneak peek – the 3rd, 4th, and 5th most traded wines of 2020

Dom-Perignon-2008-livex

Two out of the three were released this year.

The current 3rd, 4th, and 5th most traded wines by value in 2020 all come from the same region – Champagne:

Champagne trade in 2020 is on track to have its largest year on record. And in a year with not much to celebrate, the region’s performance has offered a beacon of light. The Champagne 50 is up 5.91% to the end of October with several individual wine performances far surpassing that.

Year-to-date performance is led by Cristal and Dom Perignon which are up 11.6% and 10.7%, respectively. Taittinger is up a more modest 3.6% this year, having been the second-best performer over the past 10 years. Complete year to date performance of the Champagne 50 sub-indices can be seen in the chart below.

In 2018 we wrote in our report ‘Champagne: a market without bubbles’ that “what history taught us is that it [Champagne] is a market mostly insusceptible to unsettling events.” In 2020, Champagne has once again proven just that.
